Flower Festival a great success

GREAT BRAK NEWS – The Searle Memorial Church, Great Brak River, first hosted its very popular Festival of Flowers in 1993 but a follow-up was held on 12 October 1998 to celebrate the opening of the church on 12 October 1930.

It has since become a biennial event with a different theme, this year’s being “To God be the Glory”.

This year’s flower arrangements were by Alta Scott, Annetjie van Niekerk, Elaine vd Toorn, Hettie vd Merwe, Ingrid Loock, Janette Carstens, Jenny Raaff, Joey Fourie, Pam Dicker, Pauline Burger, Sharon Buntting, Shirley vd Westhuizen, Thelma Grobbelaar and Veronica Anderson as well as Hennie Koster, who displayed his paintings.

The Flower Festival 2017 was officially opened at a very well attended service conducted by the WA President, Joy de Lange and blessed by the Searle Memorial Church Minister, Peter Holden.

The hymn “All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small” was depicted in the variety of creations on display.

From the smaller arrangements on the window sills to the bolder more magnificent displays, each was a work of art. Commencing in the foyer, moving along the sides to the front of the Church and into the vestry, each arranger created a wonderful interpretation of the Bible verses they had selected.

A variety of flowers skilfully placed into intricate designs, together with unusual accessories, lighting and music, uplifted the viewers spirits, leaving them filled with the “Glory of God”.

After viewing the arrangements, sponsored tea, coffee and delicious apple pie were served in the church hall. The organisers thank Pick n Pay Great Brak River for their kind donation. A special word of thanks goes to Sakkie Loock for his generous donation.

Church matriarch, Agnes Sterley, couldn’t take part this year. Not only her presence, but also her wonderful flower arrangements were missed by all.
